AWARD CRITERIA
|
Transparency International Latin America and the Caribbean and the Press and Society Institute, with financial support from the Open Society Institute, annouce the sixth edition of the Annual Award for the Best Investigative Report on Corruption in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a USD25 thousand dollar first prize for the winner and two USD5 thousand special prizes for important efforts. The organizations wish to promote high quality journalism, a critical watchdog of all public affairs, and the uncovering of corruption cases throughout the region.
Applicants
Journalists or teams of journalists may present one or several investigative reports published in a Latin American or Caribbean media, in any of the languages accepted in these criteria (See Reports). Teams must designate a representative. Reports published in printed, audio or video formats may apply. Media companies are not allowed as applicants. Reports published anonymously or under an alias are admitted with an authorship certificate from the media responsible. Associations or media companies may forward one of their journalists' reports given it complies with these criteria.
Reports
The Award shall admit reports published between January 1st through December 31st 2007. The reports must have uncovered significant aspects of a corruption case through a reporter's own investigation. There is no limit on word count. The report may have been published as a series. Various reports on a single case are also admitted. Books are not accepted. The report must have been published in Spanish, English or Portuguese. TV or audio reports shall be presented through an audio tape or a VHS-NTSC video tape, including the name of the media that published it and a publication's date certificate. Printed reports must include one (1) copy in A4 format. Reports for the web may apply by providing a printed image of the webpage, and a copy of the text in a separate diskette.
