IPYS postulates Lima as headquarters of GIJC 2019

Instituto Prensa y Sociedad (IPYS) presents the candidacy of Lima, capital from Peru, as headquarters of the 11th Global Investigative Journalism Conference in 2019. IPYS postulates in association with Transparency International (TI), a recognized anticorruption global organization; with El Comercio, the peruvian diary of reference; with Stimulus, the company which managed big events, and International Anti Corruption Conference

These are the 5 reasons for IPYS to postulate Lima as headquarters of GIJC 2019

1. There were nine GIJC, six had Europe as headquarters. And the unique GIJC in Latin America was Rio de Janeiro 2013. And was the most crowded. IPYS and its allies from Latin America will achieve a massive participation, increasing the assistance of journalism from different continents, especially from Latin America.

2. The biggest corruption cases are in Latin America. In addition to Lava Jato and Panama Papers, there are new challenges for investigative journalism. IPYS will realize the 11th GIJC at the same time with the Latin America Investigative Journalism Conference (COLPIN 2019), which is develop in alliance with Transparency International. This will guarantee interesting topics to work and a massive assistance.

3. Is a reality that Latin America is a continent in which journalists are hunted and assassinated. Touch this difficult situation in the continent would let develop alternatives to protect investigative journalism.

4. It exist great facilities for travel and tourism advantage. Travel to Peru is possible without visa, and Lima count with direct flights from principal cities in the world. Perú is also recognized for its enormous attractions in culture, tourism and gastronomy, and had developed the most important international events as COP20 - 2014 and APEC 2016.

5. There will be funds to finance the trip of journalists to the GIJC. Organizations involved in the candidacy of Lima for this event compromise to finance the travel and lodging of one hundred journalists who want to assist to GIJC 2019.
